Abstract:
Argo’s original design was informed by and targeted to complement spaceborne satellite observations, in order to shed light on the subsurface drivers of surface sea level variability and change. This combination has been a powerful observing system combination over the past 20 years. Here, we assess Argo’s present and near-term status. We will discuss relevant recent technical challenges Argo has faced and how these have been addressed, describe plans to develop Argo products to facilitate the use of the dataset, and present scientific highlights based on Deep Argo full-depth profiles. Lastly, we will review progress towards implementation of OneArgo – the new full-depth, multidisciplinary and global array for the future.
