Abstract:

The NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) play an important institutional role as the US archives for oceanographic data. As such, NCEI serves as the authoritative source within the US for the near real-time and delayed-mode Ocean Surface Topography Mission (OSTM) Jason-2 and Jason-3 products, distributing them to the scientific community as well as the public at large. In addition to providing rigorous long-term archival services, NCEI provides high-level data stewardship with development of custom and routine satellite data products and data visualizations. One example of scientific stewardship includes the CLASS/NCEI-SIPAD/AVISO archive reconciliation services that ensures that both NOAA and CNES identically archive all the Jason-2 products consistently. NCEI stewardship services have been extended to Jason-3 datasets being served to a variety of users.
