Abstract:

Short Abstract: A wind speed model function is developed relating AltiKa backscatter coefficient and significant wave height to ECMWF wind speed. This model is also inverted and combined with estimates from the MWR to provide a rain flagging method. Comparison of the results to Jason-2 and other satellite data are shown.

Results indicate that the regression fit, as determined, provides a better model for wind speed determination than do current models.
