Envisat ocean altimetry performance assessment. Update news of the historical dataset- getting ready for future reprocessing
Event: 2014 Ocean Surface Topography Science Team Meeting
Session: Regional and Global CAL/VAL for Assembling a Climate Data Record
Presentation type: Poster
In 2012, ENVISAT mission was interrupted, after 10 years of altimetric measurements over ocean.
Two years later, the mission's database is still maintained, studied and used. Used as a reference for the expected behavior of the very young or future missions such as AltiKa or Sentinel 3, historical database still evolves.
Next reprocessing is getting prepared with a tenth of algorithm improvements planned for the future products: instrumental corrections, SWH look up tables, improved wet tropospheric correction, GDR-E orbits, new tide models...
This poster lists the future evolutions planned for 2015 reprocessing and anticipates their expected impacts on data. It also intends to recall the main metrics of the missions over ocean: data availability and validity, monitoring of the most relevant altimeter (ocean1 retracking) and radiometer parameters, assessment of the Envisat altimeter system performances for the sea level calculation (for several scales : climate, mesoscales, costal areas, high latitudes,...) .
