Abstract:

The SARAL mission was successfully launched on February, 25th 2013 and delivers high quality sea surface topography measurements since. On July 4th, 2016 an orbit maneuver was performed to move the spacecraft to a new orbit where the satellite altitude is no longer maintained, starting the so called drifting phase.
We will present the Cal/Val status of SARAL/AltiKa’s measurements over ocean, mainly from GDR data using Patch 2 version. The main data quality metrics will be presented (data availability, SSH differences at cross-overs) with a specific focus on the mission’s performances over the two-year drifting phase.
Also, some results of the various efforts to improve SARAL/AltiKa’s dataset will be presented. Indeed, we will work on a preliminary “GDR-E- like” set of data to estimate the potential impact of the upgraded L2 algorithms in anticipation of the upcoming reprocessing planned for 2019. The yet to come GDR-E data will feed the next generation of multi-mission products (CMEMS/AVISO).
