Bangladesh coastal area is a highly densely populated area, where the issue of actual and future sea-level rise has a very strong societal impact. Most of the country is localized in the GBM (Ganges-Brahmapoutra-Meghna) delta, characterized by a strong subsidence which can reach 1.5 cm/year, and where millions of people are directly concerned by secular sea level change and seasonal floodings. The Band-Aid project aims at quantifying the absolute sea-level rise by installing co-localised GPS and tide gauge stations in several coastal sites. The field difficulties encountered to install radar tide gauges in such an area also pointed out the possibe advantages of using directly GPS as tide gauges by reflectometry.
