Abstract:

The SARAL mission was successfully launched on February, 25th 2013 and is delivering high quality sea surface topography measurements since. On July 4th an orbit maneuver was performed to move the spacecraft to a new drifting orbit, the mission has now entered its drifting phase.
Along with the Cal/Val status of the SARAL/AltiKa mission over ocean, mainly from GDR data using Patch 2 version, and IGDR data over the drifting phase, that demonstrates that the mission is in excellent shape. We also present the results of efforts and studies to improve SARAL/AltiKa data at different scales:
• preview of SARAL’s future Patch 3 performance, this Patch-3 like data will feed the next generation of multi-mission products (CMEMS/AVISO),
• Investigations on the editing of high rate data and the capabilities of SARAL/AltiKa for observing short scale ocean features,
• Impacts of rain events on data quality,
• Use of SARAL data for regional climate monitoring.
