SSB modeling from CFOSAT data

Although CFOSAT is a science mission designed to study ocean surface wind and wave conditions, the Ku-band SWIM instrument on board has the capacity to provide Sea Level measurements even if no topographic data are delivered by the mission. At the 2022 OSTST meeting, Faugère et al reported that CFOSAT can provide an interesting set of Sea Level data relevant to enrich the DUACS Sea Level Anomaly products for the benefit of the Copernicus Marine Service users. And this with a good quality at mesoscale when specific procedures, based on a multimission approach, were implemented in order to correct from the poor orbit accuracy.
The objective of the present study is to evaluate how the collocated SWIM wave spectra can help to improve the nadir altimetric Sea Level through the Sea State Bias correction applied. Both theoretical and empirical SSB estimations have been computed and compared. Results will be reported in this presentation.
