Presentation type: Poster
Daily outputs from the operational Mercator global-ocean (1/12) (PSY4) are analyzed in the complex region of the Brazil-Malvinas Confluence which is a stringent test for model performances. We compare the model outputs to in situ time series gathered at the 3 mooring sites on the continental slope (December 2014-December 2015) (cf poster by Saraceno et al. and Paniagua et al.), to AVISO altimetry products (daily 1/4) (cf poster by Ferrari et al.), to LACDP and hydrographic data from the R/V Hesperides (March 2015) (cf poster by Saraceno et al.), and to new products from CLS (daily 1/8) (cf poster by Pujol et al.). The horizontal performance is evaluated using these data and high resolution sea surface temperature (SST) images from MODIS (1 km). We also assess the vertical performance of the model at several levels using the mooring data (including an upward looking long-ranger ADCP located at 1000m on the continental slope). Once the performances of the model assessed, we use the model outputs to put the in-situ data in a larger spatial and temporal context, to derive quantities such as along-slope and across-slope transports, when accurate, and to investigate processes on the continental slope.
