Abstract:

The DUACS multi-mission gridded maps distributed today by the Copernicus Marine Service have a limited effective resolution, more than 150km, depending on the latitude (Ballarotta, 2019). With the launch, on December 2022, of the SWOT satellite, new 2D measurements are available to complement the nadir constellation. To handle this unprecedented upstream density new methods have been in preparation for the past 5 years. MIOST, a method based on wavelets has (Ballarotta 2022) allowed a multiscale mapping of Sea Level, which appeared to be very powerful to separate the signals by space/time scales. Another approach, based on Neurol Network (4DVarnet) and developed by IMT Atlantic. Simulation (OSSE) showed the interest of such method to propagate the fine scale information outside of the swaths (Fablet, 2022). This presentation will focus on the first results of mapping experiments with real SWOT data, and the datachallenge framework developed specifically for intercomparison exercises.
