Abstract:
2016 started off as a very positive year for altimetry since two new satellites have been launched: Jason-3 and Sentinel-3A. This paper focuses on the Jason series and their precise orbit consistency during the tandem phase.
The Jason-3 satellite (launched on January 17, 2016) extends the time series of centimeter-level ocean topography observations begun in 1992 by the Topex/Poseidon mission and continued in 2001 and 2008 by the Jason-1 and Jason-2 missions.
This paper will address the issues of accuracy of Jason-2 and Jason-3 orbit solutions, and long-term stability of Jason-2 orbit solutions. The inter-comparison of the two orbits will be studied, as the two satellites are 80 seconds apart from each other. The overall accuracy of the orbits is evaluated through data and parameterization techniques.
