Abstract:
Brazilian rivers have a major impact in the global water cycle and for the Brazilian economy. Therefore maintaining a hydrological network to monitor those water resources demands huge efforts for the country. CPRM (Brazilian Geological Survey) and ANA (Brazilian Water Agency) are the institutions involved in the monitoring of these rivers at the national level.
These institutions could greatly benefit of the complement to this network that altimetry could provide, especially to the monitoring of remote areas, such as the Amazon basin. The objective of this work is to show the efforts realized by Brazil in cooperation with French partners , such IRD ( Institute of Research for the Development) and CNES ( French Space Agency) to incorporate the altimetry data into hydrological information. We present the cal/val sites operated in Brazil, the strategy for cal/val GNSS data processing using CNES software GINS-PC, results of satellites validations and the preparation for future missions, especially SWOT that will be launched in 2021.
