We announce the release of the PySAMOSA software framework – the first open source multi-mission SAR altimetry retracking processor. The software is now publicly available on GitHub

or as an official PyPI package on pypi.org

PySAMOSA is a Python-based software for processing open ocean and coastal SAR altimetry waveforms (Level-1b data) from SAR satellite altimetry to measure sea surface heights, wave heights, and wind speed for the oceans and inland waters.

It supports the Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich missions and implements their L1b processing baseline. Furthermore, the coastal retracking algorithms SAMOSA+ [3] and CORAL [1] are implemented for the retracking of coastal altimetry data. In addition, FF-SAR-processed S6-MF data can be retracked using the zero-Doppler beam of the SAMOSA2 model, as validated in [2].

With this release, we contribute to open science supporting the scientific research community. We welcome contributions to PySAMOSA.
