Abstract:

The quality of the orbit ephemerides is crucial for the computation of the Sea Surface Height (SSH). Conversely, analyzing the impact of precise orbit ephemerides on SSH performances enables to describe their impact at different temporal scales and to detect remaining weakness in the orbit solution with a very fine precision.

In 2018, a new update of the orbit standard (POE-F) is getting prepared. A large panel of evolutions were integrated compared to the POE-E orbit standards. They will be made available for Jason-3 as well as for Topex.

This presentation addresses the quality of these orbit standards for altimetric missions and quantifies the improvement of precision in the Sea Surface Height estimation, with respect to the previous standards, using mono-mission and multi-missions diagnosis. In particular, the effect of the different orbit solutions concerning long term trends and inter-annual signatures observed on the Sea Surface Height are addressed. Climatic scales stability is analyzed as well as regional and higher frequency signals.
