Abstract's details
S6 MPWG Cal/Val activities during the S6B/S6MF tandem phase and roadmap for future evolutions
Event: 2026 Sentinel-6 Validation Team meeting
Session: S6VT plenary session
Presentation type: Oral
The Sentinel-6 Mission Performance Working Group is a working body composed of altimetry experts from EUMETSAT, NASA, ESA, NOAA and CNES. The group meets on a regular basis, and it aims at monitoring the Sentinel-6 altimetry mission in-orbit performance. The group assesses on mission and payload performance budgets, data products quality and stability, algorithm development and evolutions, new processor verification and validation performance, performance requirement compliance, calibration and validation implementation plan, as well as provides scientific support and recommendations to the reprocessing calibration and validation, data release, key mission instrument meetings and mission performance meetings.
In this presentation, the Sentinel-6 MPWG will share with the S6VT community the latest calibration and validation results relative to Sentinel-6B/Sentinel-6 MF tandem phase including the analyses related to the end-user requirements carried out by the partnered agencies and the status of the open anomalies (if any) and way-forward for their resolution. Moreover, this presentation will address the scientific plans for Sentinel-6 altimetry evolutions in term of processing baseline and reprocessing activities and will provide an estimated timeline and roadmap for these evolutions and reprocessed data to be available to the Sentinel-6 altimetry user community in the near future.
We wish to acknowledge the contributions to MPWG activities of the following experts: Baptiste Gombert (CNES), Lionel Zawadzki (CNES), Alexandre Couhert (CNES), Clément Lacrouts (EUMETSAT), Marco Fornari (ESA), Bin Zhang (NOAA), Carlos Yanez (CNES)
